What is a Metrosexual?
Is he a straight man with all the homosexual qualities, minus the sexual preference? Is he a neanderthal who has evolved into a well-groomed, well-dressed, and well-educated gentleman? Or is he simply just a man who is in touch with his feminine side? Check, check, check. Metrosexuality combines a certain look, attitude and lifestyle.
The metrosexual look pays attention to detail—A well groomed face
and body, a fashionable clothing style, a social butterfly (no pun
intended), and of course, a little knowledge of pop culture, mixed
with a guy who can cook up an exquisite coq au vin, defines the ultimate
metrosexual.
Metrosexuals are most definitely heterosexuals with a deep connection to their feminine side. Does this mean they are borderline gay? Of course not. Although metrosexuals exhibit many gay qualities, there is obviously a clear distinction. Being in touch with your feminine side is an attribute that runs deep within a man. It is about feeling comfortable with displaying open signs of affection, showing compassion, being nurturing, etc. Although these personality traits have always been considered “girly” qualities, today’s metrosexual man is changing all that. A man who is in touch with his feminine side is actually more together (both mentally and emotionally) than the macho, testosterone-driven he-man who crushes beer cans on his forehead and has no qualms about letting out a loud belch after a hearty meal. The he-man is so insecure about his masculinity that he needs to constantly remind himself about what a manly man he really is through his vulgar, caveman-like conduct.
A metrosexual takes the utmost care of his personal hygiene. He feels comfortable with depilation of body hair, visiting the spa for facials, manicures, pedicures, etc., going to a “salon” for a haircut (as opposed to a barber), and using high-end skincare products for that radiant complexion. He is neatly groomed from his trendy haircut to his paraffin-treated feet. A metrosexual enjoys all of these “effeminate” rituals without feeling that he is compromising his sexuality.
The metrosexual is always dressed to impress. He is on top of the fashion trend and always strives to look his best. Designers like Armani, Gucci, Versace and Diesel are among the fashions you may find in his closet. He can sport timeless fashions or follow the latest fashion trends—the bottom line is, he knows how to dress. He is usually an educated professional who makes a good salary, enabling him to enjoy the good things in life.
Women are often drawn to metrosexual males because they exude a certain level of attractiveness, self-confidence and sexual appeal. Face it, women spend a lot of time on their personal hygiene—hair, makeup, depilation, manicures, pedicures, etc., in order to look good for men. Therefore, a woman appreciates a man who takes the time to look his best. Personal grooming is not only good hygiene, it is often a courtesy extended to a sexual partner. For example, men get really turned on when a woman has had a Brazilian wax. In turn, a woman appreciates a man that “grooms” his area.
Some men are metrosexuals and don’t know it. Some men are offended by the term, simply because they don’t know what it means. Some men might think the term refers to their sexuality or sexual preference. I’m here to tell you that if you are a metrosexual—Congratulations! You are among an elite group of men.
