Men's Skincare Tips

Men’s skincare is essential for maintaining youthful, healthy skin. Men are not generally concerned about their skin until they reach their 40s and realize that their looks are fading and they don’t find themselves attractive anymore. It is important for men to start a skincare regime early in life in order to prevent premature signs of aging. Protecting the skin can also safeguard against skin cancer, as well as other skin-related diseases.

Men’s skincare is not as rigorous of a regime as that of a woman. The mere mention of the word “skincare” often makes a man’s skin crawl, simply because they know what a woman goes through to care for her skin (and the time involved). A few minutes a day and some additional healthy habits can make a world of a difference in the appearance of a man’s skin.

Men tend to have oily skin and large pores, therefore proper skin cleansing is important for radiant-looking skin (yes, men can look radiant too!). Use a mild, deodorant-free soap with little to no chemicals, such as Burt’s Bees. You can never go wrong with Burt’s Bees products because they contain natural ingredients that are gentle on the skin. A skin toner with glycolic or alpha-hydroxy acid should be applied after cleansing for improving skin elasticity. Additionally, using a gentle facial scrub 3-4 a week will keep skin soft and smooth (Burt’s Bees Citrus facial scrub is ideal). Then, top off with a light, natural, alcohol-free moisturizer (you guessed it, Burt’s Bees). Smooth on moisturizer from the bottom of the neck to the top of the forehead. For men who spend a lot of time outdoors, a moisturizer with SPF 20 or higher is recommended.

In addition to using natural skincare products, a few modifications in a man’s lifestyle can help prolong healthy skin and a healthy body.

  1. Eat better: plenty of fruits and vegetables
  2. Drink better: lots of water; minimal alcohol consumption
  3. Exercise: OK, so you’re not a gym rat. You don’t have to be. Take advantage of free time with a brisk walk in the park or playing with your dog. Any physical activity is better than none at all.
  4. Better habits: Avoid smoking, learn yoga for stress relief (works wonders), avoid excessive sun exposure.

Making moderate changes to your lifestyle will make a world of a difference in your appearance as well as your overall health.
