Latest Trends in Hair Removal for Men

Trends in hair removal for men have reached new heights! Hairless bodies are not just for women anymore. Today's men are seeking the best of hair removal care and don't mind spending the money. However, hair removal for men need not be expensive. Luckily, there are many alternatives for hair removal.

Back in the 70s and 80s, there was nothing sexier than a hairy chest. Burt Reynolds and Tom Selleck were totally rockin the "Sexiest Man Alive List" with their chest rugs. However, nowadays trends in male grooming have found found a seat next to women at the salon. With unisex salons becoming increasingly popular since the 90s, men began removing hair in areas that make them cringe. Metrosexuality became a real word, meaning that the "caveman style" was no longer acceptable.

From tweezing their eyebrows to waxing their legs and chest, men have come a long way in the area of personal grooming. This, in turn, has raised the expectation of women when it comes to hair on a man's body. Women have been stripping their bodies of every strand of hair for years, now it seems that trends have forced men to do the same.

Hair removal for men is not only for bodybuilders and male strippers any more. Check out the latest trends in hair removal for men:

Eyebrow Hair Removal

Although the "unibrow" has been acceptable for decades, simply because it wasn't customary for a man to remove eyebrow hair, today's society expects more in terms of male grooming. Grooming eyebrow hair can also improve a man's appearance, offering a more clean-cut look.

Waxing eyebrows can be painful, at first, but after it is performed a few times, the area becomes numb to the pain, making it easier and easier to tolerate. However, hairs tend to grow back quicker because they are removed from the surface and not necessarily from the root. Hot wax is applied to the areas were hair needs to be removed, a piece of paper is placed over the wax, patted and then pulled quickly at once.

Tweezing has always been very effective in removing unwanted eyebrow hair. Although it also ranks high on the pain scale, this procedure also begins to produce a numbing effect on the area of unwanted hair. Tweezing is more time consuming than waxing.

Of course, waxing and tweezing are not the only options. Threading has become increasingly popular among men, and women. The thread is twisted and passed over the area of unwanted hair, pulling each hair out individually (as in tweezing). Faster than tweezing but more time consuming than waxing, threading is considered less painful than waxing. Another benefit is that the hairs are yanked out by the root, making the results last longer (from 2-8 weeks), depending on your hair growth speed.

Electrolysis is more costly than all the other options, but also provides permanent results. Cost is based on the number of treatments needed (results vary). Electrolysis should be performed by a professional and is often a comfortable procedure in comparison. It is a safe procedure with no known side effects. Electrolysis requires a number of treatments which often depends on each individual's results.

Chest, Back, Arm and Leg Hair Removal

Chest, back arm and legs are areas that are much less sensitive than the face. The best hair removal options on these areas are waxing, shaving or trimming. Electrolysis can be performed on these areas, but it recommended mostly for eyebrows and other unwanted facial hair. Tweezing and threading are not recommended in these areas because these techniques are most effective in areas where small quantites of hair grow--it would be quite time consuming, not to mention painful.

Laser treatment, although quite expensive, a very popular option. A laser is passed over the skin, killing the hair follicles, preventing future hair growth. This procedure requires a number of treatments and the best candidates for this procedure are men with light skin and dark hair. If you are tanned or have a dark skin pigmentation, you may not obtain the best results.

Electric trimmers and shaving do not remove the hair from the root therefore making the hair grow back quicker. A small price to pay as compared to the famous wax scene from "40-year-old Virgin"... Ouch! Hell, if you can take it, more power to you.

Genital Hair Removal

The best and least painful method of hair removal in a man's genital area is shaving or using an electric trimmer. This can be performed in the privacy of your own home with the care and precision you would like in this most sensitive of areas.

Going to a salon or spa for a genital waxing can be quite uncomfortable, not to mention embarrassing. Although the meer thought of waxing can be quite painful, there are men out there that choose to do so. Bear in mind that waxing the private area on men is not the same as with women. Men's genital hair removal involves waxing the area around the testicles and penis. The hair on the testicles should be removed using a razor and shaving cream. Trimmers can be used, but they should be used with the utmost care. A nick from a trimmer in that area can be quite painful. Precision is key!

Bottom line--women appreciate a well-groomed man in the same way a man appreciates a well-groomed woman.
